Research on gratitude is finding that people who practice gratitude consistently report a host of
benefits: stronger immune systems and lower blood pressure, higher levels of positive emotions,
more joy, optimism, and happiness, acting with more generosity and compassion, feeling less
lonely and isolated. In other words, gratitude promotes protective factors. And protective factors
are one key to suicide prevention.
Gratitude is a way of thinking that offers hope and satisfaction.
Therefore, we would like to introduce “Hillsborough’s Year of Gratitude” with the catchphrase
“BUILD GRATITUDE.”  If we can get people thinking about what they are grateful for they
just may build resiliency and protective factors, and that can be infectious.
Faith Based Partnership Council has talked about how they are incorporating “BUILD
GRATITUDE” in the religious community and schools.
