Events

The Life Skills Program provides engaging activities and assemblies/workshops for both students and parents in our township.  This ranges from Family Unity nights to substance abuse awareness seminars, and our township-wide efforts supporting Red Ribbon Week.  Here are the upcoming events:

What is Red Ribbon Week?
Red Ribbon Week is the nation’s oldest and largest drug prevention awareness campaign. Today, millions of people celebrate.  Red Ribbon Week will be celebrated in Hillsborough October 26th - October 30th.

How did Red Ribbon Week start?
Red Ribbon Week started after the death of Drug Enforcement Administration Special Agent Enrique “Kiki” Camarena, who in 1985 was brutally murdered by drug traffickers he was investigating in Mexico. After his death, people wanted to honor his sacrifice. Local celebrations began in California – where Camarena grew up – in 1985, and in 1988 the National Family Partnership started the first National Red Ribbon Week.

Why the red ribbons?
As a tribute to Camarena during the initial local celebrations, high school friend Henry Lozano and Congressman Duncan Hunter, created “Camarena Clubs” and the wearing of a red ribbon to show their oppositions to drugs.

Approximately every 12 minutes, someone overdoses on opioids.  Are you prepared?

NARCAN® Nasal Spray counteracts the life-threatening effects of an opioid overdose.  Since most accidental overdoses occur in a home setting, it was developed for first responders, as well as family, friends, and caregivers—with no medical training required.
Presented by TOPAC (The Overdose Prevention Act Consortium), Narcan training is offered on a regular basis.

If an individual needs immediate training, please contact Minda Maggio at [email protected], who can put you in contact with local resources.
