If you are a potential NCAA athlete and taking a core academic course, please speak to your counselor before enrolling in Option II. You will need to specify at registration that you are a potential NCAA athlete. This ensures this course can count towards eligibility. Not all courses are eligible.
Other providers may be approved, depending upon the course. Contact your school counselor for information about which additional courses may have been approved in the past, in your area of interest. In general, additional courses would be elective courses only.
Deadline for 2024-2025 School Year Courses: September 15, 2024
Deadline for Summer 2024 Courses: June 1, 2024 (application opens 3/1/24, after approved students are to enroll on Educere after June 14)
You must wait for final approval before registering for your class. Once approved for school year classes, you may register and begin the course. Be sure to check the course ending date carefully to ensure you finish by the deadline.
Note: Courses taken outside of HHS do not count in your HHS GPA, though the grade and credits appear on the HHS transcript.
Independent Study Information:
The Independent Study (IS) Program at Hillsborough High School is designed to provide opportunities for students to extend or explore learning experiences not available in the current program of studies.
The student may pursue this in a variety of ways. Click the links below for specific information about the requirements for each experience.
1. As an independent project which extends or enriches a course offered by the school (EIS)
2. As a community service activity (CS)
3. As a career exploration experience (CE)
Independent Study is available to students in Grade 12; credits earned apply toward graduation but not toward class rank. Grading is Pass/Fail. The Study cannot be used to fulfill specific course requirements as specified by the Board of Education. A student doing Independent Study must secure a mentor; submit a proposal to be approved through the application process by a school committee; and engage in the activities without major assistance from teachers. In many cases the Study will take place outside the normal hours of the school day.
