Athletic Training
Athletic Trainers Michael Shiffman and Amanda Miller
Welcome to the Hillsborough High School Athletic Training website. We hope that the information provided will assist you in understanding what we, as Certified Athletic Trainers (ATC), do and how we help the athletes here at Hillsborough High School.
An Athletic Trainer is an allied health care professional and is recognized as such by the American Medical Association. We are sports medicine specialists who primarily treat athletically related injuries. Our expertise is in the prevention, evaluation, and rehabilitation of sports injuries. As ATC’s, we work directly for, and under the supervision of, physicians. At Hillsborough High School, Dr. Jamie Monica of University Orthopedics is our team orthopedic physician. Dr. Monica is a board certified orthopedic surgeon who covers all of our home varsity football games and comes to the high school regularly to see injured athletes.
Injuries occur in athletics, but rest assured, Hillsborough High School provides two highly qualified, highly specialized ATC’s to handle all medical situations occurring in its athletic program. And now, a little bit about your ATC’s.
Mike Shiffman is in his eighth year serving Hillsborough athletes and has been an ATC for 22 years. His educational background includes a BS from Ithaca College and an MS, ED from Old Dominion University. He is married and lives in Branchburg with his wife and children.
